Two champions will be crowned today at Sonoma Raceway as U.S. F2000 and Pro Mazda wrap up their 2014 campaigns.
Grids for the second race of a weekend in both series are determined by a driver's the second fastest lap from qualifying or fastest race one lap with the fastest of the two used to determine a driver's position on the grid.
U.S. F2000 will be the first race today. After watching a thirty-plus point lead vanish, Florian Latorre will start on pole position with his two championship rivals R.C. Enerson and Jake Eidson starting second and third respectively. Enerson trails the Frenchman Latorre by four points while Eidson is ten back. Dutch driver Jeoren Slaghekke starts fourth with race one runner-up Aaron Telitz starting fifth next to his ArmsUp Motorsports teammate Peter Portante.
JAY Motorsports Henrik Furuseth and Colton Herta occupy row four with Canadian Daniel Burkett in ninth and Brazilian Victor Franzoni rounding out the top ten. Adrian Starrantino and Clark Toppe make it an all-American row six with Nico Jamin thirteenth. Austin Cindric starts fourteenth with the German Keyvan Andres Soori rounding out the top fifteen.
The remainder of the grid goes as follows: Gustavo Myasava, Will Owen, Santiago Lozano, Juan Maldonado, James Dayson and Andrew List.
Pro Mazda championship leader Scott Hargrove will be on pole position for race two with second in the championship, trailing by two points Spencer Pigot on his outside, just like in race one. Race one winner Kyle Kaiser will start third with Neil Alberico in fourth. Kaiser is Pigot's teammate while Alberico is Hargrove's teammate. Pigot's third Juncos Racing teammate Jose Gutierrez starts fifth with Shelby Blackstock in sixth. Nicolas Costa and Ryan Booth will start on row four while Joey Bickers and Jack Aitken round out the top ten.
Julia Ballario starts eleventh with Dalton Kellett twelfth. Alex Keyes starts thirteenth. Keyes went from thirteenth to sixth yesterday in race one. Michael Johnson and Garett Grist round out the top fifteen.
The remainder of the grid goes as follows: Stan Kohls, Parker Nicklin, Michele Bumgarner, Bobby Eberle, Felipe Donato and Carlos Conde.
Yesterday, both first and second in the championship made contact that took the points leader out of the race. In U.S. F2000 Latorre was able to keep a slim advantage over Enerson despite retiring but in Pro Mazda, Pigot's retirement put the ball and points lead in Hargrove's court for the final race.
The season finale for U.S. F2000 will take place at 2:05 p.m. ET with Pro Mazda capping off it's season at 6:40 p.m. ET.
