Houston 2013 Race One: First Impressions

1. It's a whole new ball game.

2. What a drive by Scott Dixon today. From the opening stint with Will Power I knew this was going to be a throw down of a race. It was old school with drivers going all out, attrition coming into play and great passing through out the field. Helio Castroneves streak of competing every lap is over. And his points lead is eight heading into race two. Dixon is now breathing down his neck.

3. Congratulations to Simona de Silvestro on her first career podium. Makes up for the one she lost at St. Petersburg.

4. Another great run by Justin Wilson and Dale Coyne Racing. Mike Conway had a good run until he stopped off course and then got into the tire.

5. Simon Pagenaud finds himself right back in the championship picture with a fourth. I wouldn't rule him out either.

6. Another great run by Josef Newgarden. Great for him and Sarah Fisher Hartman Racing. Not a bad birthday present for Sarah whose birthday was earlier in the week.

7. How about Rahal Letterman Lanigan Racing? James Jakes in sixth, Graham Rahal in seventh. They have really turned their season around.

8. Another good run for Sébastien Bourdais. EJ Viso was the top finishing Andretti Autosport entry. Who saw that coming?

9. Congratulations to Luca Filippi on his first career top ten. If no team in F1 would hire him, fine, IndyCar will take him. Your loss F1. By the way, tough choice for Bryan Herta. Filippi or JR Hildebrand? I hope he could expand to two cars.

10. Despite all the crap of the last few days, this race made up for it and we get to do it again tomorrow.

11. Are you sure you want to move to Chevrolet, Ganassi? Honda had four of the top five, six of the top seven and seven of the top ten.

12. What a hairy start. Would have thought that one would have been avoidable. Glad everyone walked away unscathed.

13. Ryan Hunter-Reay's season hasn't been the same since Takuma Sato's kamikaze on the Pocono pit lane.

14. Oriol Servià had a great day before the gearbox let him down. I hope he finds a ride somewhere. A lot of talented guys searching but only so many will fine what they are looking for.

15. Look out for an update possible points after race two to be posted later tonight as Dixon is only eight back of Castroneves and Pagenaud is only fifty back.
