Honda driver Justin Wilson was fastest in the second practice session for the Grand Prix of Houston. He set a time of 1:04.4237 seconds, 0.03790 seconds faster than Will Power who was fastest in first practice. 2013 IndyCar Rookie of the Year Tristan Vautier was third ahead of the defending IndyCar champion Ryan Hunter-Reay in fourth.
Two-time Grand Prix of Houston winner Sébastien Bourdais was fifth, two-tenths ahead of Scott Dixon in sixth. James Jakes was in the top ten for his second consecutive session and was seventh fastest, directly ahead of his Rahal Letterman Lanigan Racing teammate Graham Rahal. Luca Filippi was ninth and Charlie Kimball was tenth rounding out a string of five consecutive Hondas.
Helio Castroneves was eleventh fastest but had an eventful session. The points leader spun twice in the session, both at the temporary chicane and the second spin ended the session. Fellow Brazilian Tony Kanaan was twelfth directly ahead of his KV Racing Technology teammate Simona de Silvestro. Takuma Sato was fourteenth with fellow Honda driver and race winner in 2013 Mike Conway rounding out the top fifteen.
EJ Viso was sixteenth ahead of Simon Pagenaud, Dario Franchitti and James Hinchcliffe. Marco Andretti rounded out the top twenty. Oriol Servià was twenty-first with Sebastián Saavedra, Ed Carpenter and Josef Newgarden rounding out the field Newgarden did not make a lap in this session after having an accident in first practice.
Sébastien Bourdais, Dario Franchitti and Graham Rahal will all face ten grid spot penalties for tomorrow's race after unapproved engine changes.
