Gabby Chaves led all forty laps of the Indy Lights race at Mid-Ohio, holding off Irishman Peter Dempsey and Brit Jack Hawksworth. It is Chaves' first career win in Indy Lights and now puts him in the thick of the championship battle. Carlos Muñoz finishes where he started in fourth but it was not an easy day by any means. After early contact with Hawksworth, Muñoz fell to tenth and worked his way back to the front.
Zach Veach gets a top five finish with Juan Pablo Garcia finishing sixth. Axcil Jefferies finished seventh on debut with Sage Karam finishing eighth. Jorge Goncalvez finishes ninth ahead of Matthew Di Leo and Giancarlo Serenelli.
Muñoz retains the championship lead, fifteen points ahead his fellow Colombian Chaves. Karam falls to third in the standings, only one point behind his Schmidt Peterson teammate. Hawksworth is fourth in the standings, forty back of Muñoz with Dempsey fifth, forty-three points back. Veach is sixth, ninety-two back, Garcia seventh, ninety-nine back and Goncalvez is eighth, one hundred and five points behind Muñoz. The Indy Lights series next race will be in one month at the Grand Prix of Baltimore. NBCSN will broadcast today's Indy Lights race at 2:00 p.m. ET, leading into coverage of the Izod IndyCar Series Honda 200 at 3:00 p.m. ET.
