Andretti Autosport driver Garrett Grist picked up his first career U.S. F2000 victory in a shortened race three at Mid-Ohio. A first lap, eleven car pile up caused a red flag, shortening the race from the scheduled twenty laps to thirteen. Those taken out in the eleven car incident included Neil Alberico, who had won the first two races of the U.S. F2000 weekend, Peter Portante, Jeroen Slaghekke, Jason Wolfe, Jesse Lazare, Florian Latorre, Danilo Estrela, Dalton Kellett, Daniel Burkett, Michael Johnson and Timothy Paul.
Scott Hargrove finished second with RC Enerson in third. Henrik Furuseth finished fourth ahead of Felipe Donato and Brandon Newey. Michael Epps, Wyatt Gooden, Austin Cindric and Matt McMurry rounded out the top ten.
Hargrove holds a forty-six point lead over Alberico and a seventy-six point lead over Grist. Estrela and Latorre round out the top five in points, eighty-nine and ninety-one points back. The U.S. F2000 series will have a month off before returning to the track at Laguna Seca to run as a support series to the Grand-Am Rolex Sports Car Series event.
Matthew Brabham didn't lead a green flag lap in race two at Mid-Ohio but went on to take the victory. Diego Ferreira took the lead from the start but when a caution came out for oil being laid down on track by Kyle Connery, Ferreira slipped off course in turn four and was overtaken by Brabham, who was able to stay on course, for the lead. Brabham lead the final four laps as the race ended under caution. It's Brabham's ninth win this season as he extends his points lead. Nicolas Costa rounded out the podium with Shelby Blackstock, Spencer Pigot, Scott Anderson, Zack Meyer, Kyle Kaiser, Lloyd Read and Jose Gutierrez rounding out the top ten.
Brabham now holds a sixty-five point lead over Ferreira with four races to go. Blackstock is eighty-nine points back with Pigot and Anderson rounding out the top five. Pro Mazda races next weekend at Trois-Rivières.
